2010 Symposium Photo

"Running for Answers" Patient Symposium

Join us and other desmoid tumor patients and their families for an afternoon of new friends, new information and hope.

Date:
Saturday, October 22nd, 2pm - 6pm
Location:
Marriott Courtyard Philadelphia Downtown, 21 N Juniper Street, Philadelphia.

Light refreshments will be served during a break.

Attending the DTRF Patient Meeting gives patients and family members the opportunity to hear from the experts and learn about the most current treatment options and research. One patient last year commented, "I just wanted to tell you how helpful and moving the DTRF Patient Symposium was last year. The four doctors that presented did a wonderful job in giving an overview of the disease and current treatment options... The most important thing that they imparted was HOPE." Following the talks, we always hold our patient roundtable, where we have the chance to share our own stories, learn from each other and ask the experts more questions.

We are presently working on the patient meeting panel and further details will follow shortly. Currently the speakers include:

  • Arthur Staddon, MD - The University of Pennsylvania -Dr. Staddon is a MEDICAL ONCOLOGIST and is Director of the Joan Karnell Cancer Center and Director of the Bone or Soft Tissue Sarcoma Program.
  • Andrew Wagner, MD, PhD - Dr. Wagner is a MEDICAL ONCOLOGIST at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and an instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical Center.  His interests are with soft tissue sarcoma, bone sarcomas, GIST, and developmental therapeutics.
  • Kevin Reilly - A former Philadelphia Eagle that was diagnosed and overcame a desmoid tumor on his shoulder now uses his story to motivate others.  To learn more about Kevin: kreilly.com.
  • Erinjeri, MD, PhD - Dr. Erinjeri is an INTERVENTIONAL ONCOLOGIST and member of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Soft Tissue Sarcoma Disease Management Team with a particular interest in the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma. He is an expert in image-guided thermal ablation of tumors.
  • Richard B. Womer, MD - Dr. Womer is a Professor of Pediatrics at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His interests include clinical and "translational" research on the diagnosis and treatment of childhood sarcomas.

Following the talks will be a chance for patients to interact with the experts and with each other. This has been the highlight of the event for many of our attendees.
